Did you know that murder has been the leading cause of death amongst journalists since 1992?
In Canada we’re confident knowing that essentially journalists are free to cover any story in-depth. We welcome pursuit and exposure of the truth. Not so in many countries around the world.
We were recently in attendance at The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos, for the interview with our friend and speaker client, investigative journalist Terry Gould, for the launch of his new book: Murder Without Borders. We know Terry and his family well and have been on the periphery supporting (and worrying about) his ventures as he travelled over the years to some of the most deadly countries for journalists.
Most recently Gould traced the lives and deaths of 7 journalists who died for their story, and he shares his findings in his book and speaking events, explaining the mystery of their courage. They foretold their own murders and died to showcase the truth about injustices in their own homelands.
As we recognize World Press Freedom Day this month, we pay tribute to those who risk their lives for the freedom of expression.
